RISO CLUB

Riso Club is a collection of experimental print assignments focused on Risograph techniques.

Soup Poster

For this assignment, the theme was soup, and I chose wonton soup due to its personal connection to family dinners in my hometown. I researched the cultural symbolism of wontons in Cantonese culture and translated this into a typographic-led poster with a modern feel.

The design plays with the idea of eating wontons as eating clouds, referencing traditional Cantonese cloud motifs that symbolize harmony. Inspired by Cantonese porcelain and clothing, I used blue and gold as the main colors. The final design was separated by color for riso printing, embracing slight misregistration as part of the process and learning experience.

Creativity Poster

This Riso Challenge focused on creating two posters that represent what creativity means to me. I began by defining creativity through brainstorming and sketching, which led to the concept The Beginning of Everything, inspired by the Big Bang as the origin of the universe.

The poster uses bold, tall typography to fill the background, with black representing space, and an explosive central form symbolizing creation and energy. The color gradients were inspired by photographs I took during a trip to Vlieland with friends, referencing star-like tones and movement.

During printing, the gradients did not translate as smoothly as intended due to a lack of added noise, which became a valuable technical learning for future riso projects.

Post Cards

This RISO assignment consisted of designing four A6 postcards that represent my personal and design values: creativity, growth, people/culture, and love. I began by translating each value into a simple graphic shape, keeping the designs intentionally minimal, direct, and clear. The forms reflect how I see the world and how I design.
